The North Cascades Highway is temporarily closed due to expected snowfall of up to two feet with a predicted reopening on Monday November 21, 2011.
Lots of snow followed by very cold temperatures are predicted this early winter/late fall 2011 in Methow Valley

It is so exciting to see the snow come to beautiful Methow Valley, but don’t forget to get those studded snow tires on the car!
For visitors planning a trip to Mazama, and Winthrop Washington, typically some of the most treacherous road conditions on Highway 20 (as you head northwest up into the mountains) can occur right at the wings of the closures. Watch the weather and if a storm is predicted to blow in on the high peaks, consider traveling on Stevens Pass, or I-90. These travelfares are further south and may get you here safely. Consider that even if the highway is open and our typical sunny gorgeous Methow Valley skies ensue, if a storm happens to blow in, the North Cascades Highway 20 can close while you are here visiting famous Winthrop Washington and you may be required need to take a different route.
